You have decided to get a pet but don't quite know what you'd like to have. So let's take a trip to visit a pet shop. As we enter, we hear a variety of noises. The odors also tell us that it is a place where animals are housed until sold.
The first thing we see is a row of cages along one wall where the birds live. Chatter, chatter, chatter as they fly and jump from perch to perch.
Next we see the gerbils and guinea pigs. They are cute but we are still looking. At the back of the shop against the wall is the aquarium. What a variety of fish! One could have a choice of size, color, and number. Nope, none of these animals appeal to our desires!
We ask the clerk, "Where are the cats?" She tells us, "We don't have any here. You need to go to the animal shelter to see dogs and cats!"
It's off to the animal shelter where we can perhaps get a kitty! That's what we really want! There we find two kittens that are appealing. The little multi-colored lady is our choice. Now we have to get her supplies.
There are many stores that carry pet supplies. They stock kitty beds that are soft and snuggly. They carry climbing poles of various designs. Cats like heights and love to perch high above the floor. This might be a specialty pet shop item.
Toys are important for both amusement and exercise. Regular variety stores carry popular pet toys but pet shops carry a bigger variety of both popular and unusual toys. Springy and dangly objects will give kitty a lot of good exercise and fun as she grabs for the moving toy. Dragging a piece of string or yarn on the floor for kitty to chase is fun for her and gives you quality time with your pet.
The most important thing besides kitty's food is a litter box. Many styles can be had. There are open boxes and some with hoods over them for a little privacy. There are even automated ones that scoop and clean themselves of the waste material, if you don't like cleaning the box.
A Tip: Cats do not need a lot of attention. It is said, 'they don't belong to you, you belong to them!' They are independent creatures and want your attention when they desire it. Train and love your kitten from the first day that you acquire it and you will form a close bond with it. Cats can be very lovable! You will soon be able to distinguish between the different meows as to its needs. My kitty and I have 'conversations' ocassionally. It's great having a true companion!
My comment: Having a pet to love gives big rewards!
