Advanced Dog Training Exercises - Hide and Seek

After the dog has mastered the back and forth recall game, it is time to teach your dog another game. This time the game is Hide and Seek, which is really a lot of fun for the dog and the family.

The game starts with two or more humans in the center room of the house or apartment, usually the living room.

One person calls the dog to come, and gives the dog their preferred treat. In the meantime, the other person goes

to another room and calls the dog to come, By the end of the game, the two people should be at opposite ends

of the house.

How long can this game go on? You don't have to confine yourself to only going in a room one time. Each time

change the order of the rooms you go into so the dog can have even more fun.

This game can also be played in a fenced-in yard, providing there are places to hide in the yard.

This game takes into consideration that dogs are natural hunters and relies on their ability to seek you out. It is

great fun for both the dog and the owners or handlers. Some dogs will do this by sight, scent, or hearing, depending on the breed.
