Pug Dog Gift

by Marcia Connors

A Pug Dog gift is an unusual item as the breed itself is so unusual. The desirable weight of a Pug dog is from 14 to 18 pounds. Its head is large, massive and round. Its muzzle is short, blunt and square with large and deep wrinkles. The eyes are dark in color, very large and prominent. The legs are very strong. Of course the most prominent characteristic of the Pug Dog might be its tail, which is curled as tightly as possible over the hip. A double curl if often preferred.

Pugs are people-oriented dogs, right down to the fact that they go through stages of maturity. Puppies are especially playful and always underfoot for want of company.

They are greatly affected by heat and humidity and should not be left outside in the heat as this may cause serious injury. So ideal gift ideas for the Pug Dog might be beds for inside sleeping, toys which are appropriate for inside and a large water bowl.

Originating in China, this breed is found in ancient scrolls and Oriental works of art. Since the West began trading with China in 200 B.C. there is no surprise that this breed of dog also traveled the seas to new continents. Many oriental gifts include the breed featured somewhere in the artwork. A Pug Dog gift of oriental items is therefore most appropriate.

China and porcelain figures of Pugs emerged from factories -particularly at Meissen, Germany. Many were portrayed in German art and portraits. William and Mary brought Pugs to England when they arrived in 1688. So a Pug Dog gift might be considered to be quite English as well.

Tapestries, footstools, tote bags and rugs adorned with the photo of the breed make excellent choices for Pug Dog Gifts for anyone who enjoys the breed. With the history of the Pug, they are well loved in many countries.
