Many puppy owners like to feed their puppies soft food. True, puppies usually love soft food and often prefer it over dry, hard food. However the soft food does not offer the same benefits to the teeth.<.p>
Eating soft food only can actually weaken your puppies teeth over time causing them to break and making it nearly impossible to eat solid food as they become adults.
It also is more likely to cause loose bowel movements which is never desirable especially if the puppy has not mastered going outside.
There are many different brands to choose from making it very hard to decide what your puppy might prefer. There are cheap store brands or more expensive name brands such as Iams or Eukanuba.
While store brands are usually much cheaper per bag than the name brands, they often require the puppy to eat more to feel full than the more expensive brands. The cheaper brands often do not have as much of the vitamins and minerals as the better quality brands, thus not being as healthy for your pet.
Some puppies have special diet needs many brands have foods for particular problems your puppy might have. Iams and Eukanuba offer food that can be purchased at your vet for a variety of problems, some of these foods are by prescription only. These brands also offer special food for your large breed puppy.
You may try several foods before choosing the one your puppy loves. It is a good idea to buy small bags at first to avoid twenty pounds of food your puppy won't touch. If this does happen most animal shelters will be happy for your puppies left-overs.
