Deciding to adopt a puppy is something that should be thought through. If there are more than yourself in the house everyone should be involved in the decision.
Puppies need training and time. There is more to a pet than picking out a name and a pretty collar. There is a lot to consider. Do you want a pedigree puppy from a breeder or will any puppy with a wet nose do?
Local Shelters are a great place to get a pet. There are times when a pedigree puppy can be found at the local pound.
You also need to make sure of the puppies temperament. A dog with food aggression is not a good idea around a little one who may want to share an afternoon snack.
Puppies are also expensive. There are puppy shots and unless you plan on being a responsible breeder then you will want to have your pet spayed or neutered.
Some owners prefer a professional to get them through potty training and for some extra obedience. This can be pricey. This may also be hard for a little one to understand if it requires the puppy to be gone for sometime.
The coat of the puppy should be considered as well. A poodle requires grooming. This is time consuming and if you have to hire someone can get expensive. If you don't want to deal with the coat a short haired puppy is probably best for you.
So as you can see there is a lot to think about. You will have to prepare your house with supplies, pick a puppy, pick a name, and do some training before your family will live happily ever after.
